Malchiki v nebe (2002) directed by Zulfikar Musakov

This film by Zulfikar Musakov is a very pleasant crowd pleaser.First of all it is a film which is entirely soaked in cinema.It has been made by a man who wanted to offer his tribute to the great masters of cinema. This has been done through the portrayal of a young boy who wishes to be a great filmmaker like some of the film makers he admires like Takeshi Kitano,Lars Von Trier etc.There is also a crowd pleasing romantic angle of four boys trying to woo a single beautiful girl who as a new comer has come to join these boys in their class.As usual in such kind of situations it is the most unfortunate one who wins the girl but the film has a quite different ending.Comedy aspect has also been nicely depicted by showing a hilarious confrontation of old and young generation.Uzebek cinema is largely known for films made by its grand director Ali Khamraev.This is a promising film from one of Uzbek cinema's talented directors.Its success helped Zulfikar Musakov to get financial backing from Japan's NHK for making his next film called "I want".

Karakum (1994) directed by Arend Agthe and Usman Saparov

What can one say about a children's film which is directed by two directors from two different cultures who specialize exclusively in made for children films ? Watching "Karamkum" directed by German Arend Agthe and Turkmen Usman Saparov one would surely say that this film is a good effort in promoting international harmony,understanding and peace.Karakum is a fun filled joyride which takes its two young teenage protagonists from a remote desert to a distant seashore.The unique lesson that can be learned from this film is that two people need not know a common language to communicate with each other. Communication is an emotional act that can also be done using common wisdom and sign language as shown in this film.Karakum has plenty of suspense which is bound to keep all the viewers glued to the edge of their seats.If you are fed up that your children are not watching good Children's films this is the film for you and your children.Watching this film there is an even likelihood that you might even forget all your silly flicks like Home Alone,The Lion King,South Park,The Simpsons etc.

Uzebek men prefer lazing around doing nothing

Erkak (2005) directed by Yusuf Razykov

"Erkak",is a bold Uzbek film by Yusuf Razykov.Its narrative structure relies more on certain ancient traditional customs still prevalent in central Asia. This is depicted by shooting in one of those areas which are totally cut off from human civilization. The entire film is full of symbolic value about the position of women. Although there is very little information about the reason for the mystery element, the film has nevertheless fine performances by its young protagonist. One major difference between this film and other films with young boy as the man is that those might seem as some sort of "Coming of age" films whereas this film is not at all a "coming of age" film.
